Clare Baggaley is the founder and Creative Director of The Book Makers, a London-based design agency. Since launching in 2021, she has worked with a talented network of designers, editors, production experts, and printers to deliver books that stand out in a crowded market. The Book Makers partners with publishers, authors, and brands to create everything from beautifully illustrated children’s titles to bold adult non‑fiction and innovative novelty projects.

Clare brings over 25 years’ experience in publishing, having worked with HarperCollins, Bloomsbury, Dorling Kindersley, Carlton, and Quarto, as well as clients such as Pan Macmillan, Wonderbly, The British Library, and The London Eye. Her expertise spans design, art direction, and concept development, and she has created successful series and bespoke projects for global brands.

In 2023, Clare founded A Mischief of Magpies, (https://www.mischiefmagpies.com) an independent publisher of children’s and adult books, including her own funny and irreverent “Up Yours” activity series. With her collaborators, she continues to bring books to life that engage readers and leave a lasting impression.
